Top 5: STDs In Hip-Hop

Sex and hip-hop have gone together hand-in-hand since the early 90s. From the famous Biggie Smalls and Lil Kim interlude to 2pac with Temptations, and then the holy grail, Khia – My Neck, My Back, rappers have always coupled their lavish lifestyle raps with an endless amount of sex. But has there ever been any real mention of STDs within the genre? Well, we did some research…

1) Nas – Remember The Times

This track has the best beat on it out of any of these 5. It’s heartfelt stuff from Nasir Jones, who talks about his first love and sex. He starts to reference STDs at the 1:08 mark, rapping “Was only scared of them STDs, syphilis, VD and herpes, Daffy Duck-lookin’ bitch burnt me, correction, Urinary tract infection, what I got for no protection” Nas-ty.

2) Eminem – Drips (ft. Obie Trice)

Now, from one of the best rappers alive and Obie Trice, we essentially have a song aimed at men, and how ‘they’re getting sick’. Obie starts off with an intense story to Denise, from the cleaners, whom he did the deed with unprotected. The chorus chimes in after with Em singing “These b*tches on my dick, That’s how dude’s be getting sick, that’s how dicks be getting drips” Grim Slim Shady, very grim.

3) Look Who’s Burnin’ – Ice Cube

Ice Cube made this awesome 90’s hit in the early part of the decade and a close look at the lyrics shows that it’s really about something burning…down there. It’s about a girl Ice Cube was hooking up with, but then she hooked up with a college student and became “Miss Gonorrhea.” If only she had wrapped it up with a condom she could have avoided this pageant title!

4) Wu-Tang Clan – Maria

Off the classic album Wu-Tang Forever from ’97. The song has a heavily featured Ol’ Dirty Bastard kicking things off with a straight to the point bar about catching Gonnorhea. RZA comes in with probably the best line in the song, “Suicidal, she been in more hotels than bibles”. Heavy stuff from the Clan.

5) Cam’ron – On Fire Tonight

Cam’ron jumps us straight into the action on this one with a phone call to the girl that had ‘burned him’. They have a real slanging match and then the music starts at 1:05. Favourite line: “Where’s the psychological sense in that player? You need to wash ya face!”

So, there you have it, the GiftCondom.com STD Playlist! Listening to these tracks before a night out is is a sure fire way to make sure you keep it wrapped. Why not share this article with someone who’d actually listen to rappers perils and take heed than maybe from yourself? If you find that too awkward, why not send them an anonymous delivery of condoms to give you that extra peace of mind! Send a care package now at GiftCondom.com

**BONUS SONG: Cotton Eyed Joe**

This is certainly not hip-hop but a party favourite all the same, especially at family events like weddings and retirement parties. Basically, anything that has a DJ will have this song played at it. So, you’ll probably be disappointed to know that these lyrics are actually speaking about a guy who is getting his dick swabbed for an STD. Now it makes sense why the singer would have “been married long time ago” if it wasn’t for old cotton eyed Joe.

Extreme Grooming Quadruples Risk of STIs

Now, for the shaven havens among us this may come as some shocking news, so brace yourselves if you’re a keen trimmer, waxer or indeed shaver!

A US Study of near on 8,000 people between teens and OAPs, waxing, trimming or shaving our private parts actually QUADRUPLES the risk of picking up an STD!

Some groomers classed as ‘Extreme’, who shaved, waxed or trimmed at least ONCE a month were FOUR TIMES more likely to have picked up an infection!

Any type of grooming at all was associated with an 80% (EIGHTY) heightened risk of having an STI than no grooming at all!

The research suggests grooming may cause tiny skin tears, through which bacteria and viruses can easily pass.

It seems the hairy, neanderthals among us have been doing it right all along! I seriously hope this doesn’t mean we’ll be seeing some extra bush down the beach!

Put a stop to all the problems and take away the risk of shaving too close by USING A CONDOM. Send someone a care package today at our LOW price of £6 or £9 – GiftCondom.com

Antibiotic Resistance Week – What You NEED To Know!

Monday 14th November marked the start of Antibiotic Resistance Week! Huge numbers of people are inadvertently putting themselves at risk and do not have a CLUE what is happening or understand the full extent of this global issue. So, here we are to clear things up for you (yes, YOU). With the rise of bacteria resistant to treatment, consequences are becoming ever present in societies across the planet.

To understand the true gravity of the situation and why this week exists, here are some FAQs with answers from Public Health England

Q: So, what in Heaven’s name is Antibiotic Resistance anyway?

It’s when bacteria become resistant to our antibiotics so the medicines no longer kill the bacteria

Q: Yikes… What are the causes?

It happens naturally over time, especially when they’re taken with no need or the wrong antibiotics are administered

Q: Hold on a second, can we not just develop new ones?!

The last time a major new class of antibiotics was introduced was during the 80s!

Q: Fudge. But how many people are actually dying from it so far? Surely it’s not taking it’s toll yet?

It’s estimated 25,000 in Europe alone have suffered

Noticeably for the UK, a recent outbreak of the STI Gonorrhoea (HL-AziR) has raised concerns much further, ESPECIALLY for sexually active 18-25-year-olds who are most at risk. This particular strain of the STD has become resistant to treatment, becoming extremely hard to contain, and dubbed ‘Super-Gonorrhoea’ by the press (to read up further on that particularly sticky situation, click here)

PROTECT YOUR STUDENT KIDS NOW WITH GiftCondom.com

With 1 in 3 people taking antibiotics at least once a year, it is important that more people take notice of what’s going on and start thinking about measures to protect yourselves and your families.

For 18-25s everywhere, with the current state of resistant STDs, the advice is simple: EVERYONE can significantly reduce their risk by using condoms with all new and casual partners. And this, people, is just one of the reasons we are doing what we are at GiftCondom. Protect your loved ones TODAY!

Health officials the world over are starting to warn of the dangers of an STI which is now becoming resistant to treatment. The disease has been cured rather easily with a single dose of antibiotic in the past, but fast forward to 2016 and the bacteria that causes the disease has been evolving to develop resistance to Doctor’s orders.

The World Health Organisation has had this to say: “[the resistance is] raising concerns about the eventual development of untreatable gonococcal infections with serious sexual and reproductive health consequences”. This comes off the heels of a warning issues by experts during 2015

“We are concerned about the emergence of strains that are resistant to the antibiotic treatment options currently available.”

The sexually transmitted disease can result in serious discomfort, pelvic inflammatory disease and even infertility. Symptoms can go undetected among 1 in 10 infected men and half of infected women. A green or yellow discharge from the genitals, discomfort urinating and irregular bleeding between periods are usual warning signs, so if these are showing for you, please visit your local GP as soon as you can!

What causes further alarm is the recent outbreak of a strain of resistant Gonorrhoea known as HL-AziR within Universities in the North-West of England. Dr Gwenda Hughes, Head of the Sexually Transmitted Infections Section at Public Health England said: “Diagnoses of gonorrhoea in England have risen sharply in recent years and we are concerned about the emergence of strains that are resistant to the antibiotic treatment options currently available.”

Public Health England signed off on their update on the situation with this: “Our advice remains the same; it is far better to avoid getting or passing on gonorrhoea in the first place and everyone can significantly reduce their risk by using condoms with all new and casual partners.”
